Kauai While we were on Kauai we had an ideal location for we faced east. Every morning we'd have a cup of coffee by 5:30 AM. Getting up early was easy for it was like rising at 10:30 AM on HHI. Now bed time did move up a bit, 9 PM was rarely seen (except through eye lids). Our condo was ideal for a family. Kids were in the lagoon from sunrise to sun set. Koi swam in the large pond off the foyer. I did make a few errors early on, the reflection off the water had to be avoided. Even with a UL filter positioning was key. We went from one end of the island to the other in two different trips - appx. 4 hours from one tip to the other. There are no roads that make a complete loop around the island. Best plan on a boat trip if you want to see the miles that are uninhabited. We started by heading north (up the east side) until the road stopped. The following day we went to the Hyatt for lunch (west side). We dined with Sue and Ed Weltner and Ann Doug Weltner at Dukes @ Marriot Resort. The Weltners are from Kansas City. Sue and Ed have visited with us when their winter vacation is in Southern FL instead of Kauai. Doug and Ann let us stay in their Vail condo years ago. Kauai has an area known to be the wettest place on earth. Usually you can escape rain by heading north or south. We only had a few days that were ideal. Some clouds, some rain was the usual every day. Twice we tried to get to the top of Waimea Canyon. Both attempts were unsuccessful for Mr. Cloud was resting at the top! On the second attempt we found areas to pull over and I walked to the edge of the canyon walls to take several pictures. Kauai is laid back, quiet so to speak. Di and Jane spent a few days laying in the sun pool side. Will and I explored the island by car. Naturally it was a photographers dream. I had a chauffer shuttle me from one end to the other. We did play golf twice. Mr. Russell kick our butts! He hadn't touched a club in months. Will hits the ball as far as I did when I was in my 30s!

This is one photo that met my expectations for an Extraordinary rating !
This was taken from the exact spot I took the photo above but with my maximum zoom lens -- Kauai's lighthouse

No wonder I am on a diet! TG, Xmas, NYE, and few parties in January have me on the South Beach diet!

I am not a botanist, these red flowers were very popular.
Bushes outlined our condo and the flowers lasted for days!
Di snapped many photos!
It was cloudy but we never got a drip of rain!
We cooked in nearly every night. The condo had a great grill area. Steaks, lobster tails, burgers, pizza, pot roast; breakfast egg beaters, Hawaiian sweet bread toast, etc.
