Amalfi and Positano

We arrived early in the AM and took a boat to the harbor as MS Nautica was anchored 1000 yards away.  Once we docked in Amalfi we took another boat north a few miles to Positano.  Of the two cities I liked Positano the best.  The weather was outstanding.  The shopping pleased the gals.  The towns are built on hillsides.  Each alley climbed the hill followed by one store after another.

My postcard photo of Amalfi!

Amalfi boutiques lined many of the alleys.

Lunch -- for a bowl of soup and Italian brochette = 70 euro or $100

This chap accompanied our luncheon with Italian songs.

They rent apartments by the square meter!  Buying one @ $5,000 per sq meter is out of the question for most.

Mayor's quarters

Main street in Amalfi.  Ground floor commercial, above stories apartments.

11th Century Cathedral

Amalfi coast

Positano - Moorish styled homes and church.

This is such a striking scene and is often on postcards

Altar

Beautiful gold, wood and white walls.

Homes and shops build to the sky!

The hat ladies!

The homes look like match boxes.

This is the first beach we have seen that has tan sand.  Usually they are black pebbles.

Life on the coast wouldn't be real without a boat!

How they build on this surface amazes me.  How do they get materials and equipment to the site.

Somehow they "get r done!"
