Delos, Greece

Delos is an uninhabited island, 75 nautical miles from Santorini.  Although it is a tremendously important ancient city, no one is aloud to stay on the island even overnight.  Birth and death are prohibited.  If you are pregnant or sick they get your tail off the island pronto.  According to mythology it is the birthplace of Apollo, the God of beauty, health, sun, light, harmony and music.  Early traces of life go back to 3rd millennium BC.

This may be a bit boring, so flip through the photos.  Not many titles but I did take pictures of the informational plaques.  Read them if you have time -- or an interest.

A view of the entire city from top of the theater.

Looking down on the theater

The seats of the theater are left to your imagination

Aqueduct -- doorway was hardly 5' tall.

Mosaic floor

Inside home -- narrow path or road

Guessed to be a residential area

These folks loved columns

Apollo

With acres upon acres of city, this was the only person seen working.

Cistern -- water was as essential then as now

Narrow roads

Ouzo jugs

At one time there may have been as many as 18 lions

Seattle Lion

Bulls were honored with many statues

Assumed to be their agora - market.

They have pieced together a statue of a person, wonder where his head is.
The building in the back is a museum.

Plaques help to tell the story

Boy did they know how to use a chisel

Residential area

The city was huge!

They continue to put pieces together.
