Hermanus, South Africa

We left the group at the Cape Town AP.  Chuck, Zoë, Di and I pushed our luggage over to Avis.  It really was close by.  We rented a VW van that could sit 8 people and we needed every bit of room for golf clubs and luggage.  We missed our first turn and took another loop around the AP.  I needed practice driving a stick shift as well as getting used to driving on the other side.  Shifting with the left hand posed no problem.  With Chuck as copilot we headed towards the east.  We arrived  in Hermanus at 5 PM.  That evening we dined at the Mediterranean Restaurant.  Greek salad, lamb, desert and coffee was the choice for three of us.  Di went with the line fish.  Deep fried and served with French fries was Di's choice.

Our rooms were pretty neat.  The facility was a B & B.  We had coffee in the room and then walked to the corner to another facility for breakfast.  The gals wanted to shop, Chuck and I took our cameras and went to the surf to capture some memories.

We were trying to catch the wave as it crashed into the rocks and shot up in the air.

From a distance we could see it shoot high but we sat and watched for 10 minutes and this was all we got.  Then we walked back up and bingo - it shot high again.  We decided to be more patient and sit it out.

But why waste time -- I took more shots that looked pretty neat.

The wind was strong.

Here is a pretty good one.

The birds are no dummies -- they face into the wind!

The rock gets totally submerged when a big wave comes in.

The under tow had to be strong.

Another wave hits the rock.

Now that is what I call a spray!

Chuck is bound to get good view from here.

Looks like a rock rat to me.  Can you see her baby in the rear?

They must be vegetarians.  I can't imagine eating rocks.

This is a youngun.

Zorro bought a new cane and is trying to intimidate Zoë.

This is a century plant.  I don't think it is 18 centuries old!

We stopped at a small restaurant on our way to Knysna.  We all had cheese burgers and they were great!  So were the fries!
