Mount Vernon
George Washington's home
took many years to build. He was an infrequent "visitor" while he was
leading our nation to freedom. He was revered by the entire population
of the USA. Twice, after the war serving as General and after
serving as President, Washington could have easily been crowned King. In
both instances he resigned his command for it was his credo that our nation
should be a democracy run "by and for the people". He had 80,000 acres
of land at his death. Mount Vernon overlooks the Delaware.
Unfortunately, photography was prohibited inside the home. Click here

We got our circular drive
idea from George's design.

Cook House -- always in a
separate building for fire prevention reasons.

This is where food
was prepared for dozens. The Washington's had visitors every night for
years!

Actually the home is wood,
sand is plastered on the outside to make you think is block.
