We had a great ride on the Glacier Express following the valley until we headed up the mountain to St. Moritz. Once we headed up the Alps the scenery changed. We followed the low land for quite awhile. Vineyards, farms and beautiful scenery prevailed all the way. We saw glaciers, rugged peaks and bare steep sides of rock. Will let the photos tell the story.
Sorry about the reflection but the window in the train could not be lowered. We followed the low land along the river.
A common sight on either side of the valley included sheer rock walls like this.
I explained the small sheds on the hillside earlier. This is a small town. Makes me wonder if the exist on the land alone?
A gathering of buildings in wide open spaces was common.
St. Moritz was a shopping paradise. Unfortunately we hit the town after most stores were closed.
Train tracks cover the country.
There's the engine!
We are on our way up!
The clouds seem to be a permanent part of the scenery
Mama milk and cheese factory -- they all have these large bells to help let the farmer know they are coming home!
Familiar scene
Their fir trees are no where near the height of our loblolly firs. But they cover the hill sides and look far healthier than Colorado where the bugs have infested hundreds of acres. |
